It has surfaced that top execs involved with Disney’s latest, JOHN CARTER, are in trepidation over the likelihood of the big spend production going down as the biggest flop of the year.
Prospects for the $250 million priced film looks dismal with one studio executive quoting, “2 unaided, 53 aware, 27 definitely interested, 3 first choice “after early tracking was unearthed earlier today. A rival studio also revealed that targeted audiences have disregarded it stating that, “…women of all ages have flat out rejected the film.”
There’s no wonder Disney is apprehensive about its opening on 9th March but despite this they’re still making futile attempts to buck up popular awareness, “We know that we have a long way to go. It’s still four weeks out, and the bulk of the media hasn’t hit yet…On Sunday we launch a full campaign with 90+% of all of our media ready to go.” So what’s their reasoning for the lack of buzz surrounding the movie? “It’s the last leftover from the previous regime of Dick Cook,” we’re told. “We’re not running away from the movie. Our job is to sell it.”
Despite all the costly efforts to come with pushing JOHN CARTER we’re reminded that Disney is going to have one hell of a job keeping sales up with only a two week lull before the greatly anticipated Lionsgate latest, THE HUNGER GAMES, is released. Realising this, Disney is obviously going all-out to win us over, though by the looks of things not even physically pushing audiences into their seats is going to save this film from disaster.
JOHN CARTER is directed by Andrew Stanton and stars Taylor Kitsch, Bryan Cranston and Lynn Collins.
