Wright And Depp Locked On For ‘The Night Stalker’

HOT FUZZ and SHAUN OF THE DEAD director Edgar Wright will team up with Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp to bring the cult, hit show THE NIGHT STALKER to the big-screen. Depp is expected to take the lead role of Carl Kolchack, the intrepid reporter investigating the supernatural goings-on in the dark, Las Vegas underworld. The role was previously played by the late, great Darren McGavin during the 1970s, in a television movie which was eventually picked up and ran for 20 episodes between 1974-5.

Depp will serve as both star and producer and has been developing the project with Disney. They hope to make the movie a fun, family friendly experience, so it can fit the brand that has made then the iconic company they are today. There’s no word on when the feature will begin shooting or more casting announcements but THN will bring further updates as they happen.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
