The Expendables bashes up the US box-office

Wow! Who saw this coming? Sylvester Stallone has literally knocked out the box-office in the US with the massive $35 million + opening of his directorial and starring effort The Expendables this weekend. The action movie, which also stars Jason Statham, Jet Li and Steve Austin, easily bagged the number one spot from fellow new release Eat Pray Love, which entered the chart at number two, with just over $23 million in takings over the three days.

The Adam McKay directed The Other Guys, last week’s numero uno, beat other release this week to position itself at number three, while Inception managed to add another $11.3 million to its total haul, easily taking the fourth position on the chart.  That mean’s Edgar Wright‘s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, the film that is getting as good word of mouth as Inception three weeks ago, only managed to secure position number five with $10.5 million in green. That has to disappoint.
