Director John Hillcoat, who gave us the brilliant aussie western THE PROPOSITION and Cormac McCarthy’s punishing post-apocolyptic adaptation of THE ROAD, will next give us the all-star LAWLESS. Based on the Matt Bondurant novel, The Wettest County In The World (and until recently, the feature’s actual title), the film tells the fact-based story of a pair of bootlegging brothers in prohibition-set Virginia, who take the law into their own hands, while chasing the American dream.
Here we have the first official image of Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf, from the film that will also star Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke and Noah Taylor. LAWLESS hits cinemas in the US 31st August, but as-yet, no UK date has been confirmed.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
