Nick Love’s Big-Screen Remake Of ‘The Sweeney’ Has A Trailer!

If you’re under 30, you probably wont have a clue or even care what the names Jack Regan or George Carter mean to many. For us over that age, the hard-as-nails detective duo that headed the London Police Metropolitan Flying Squad, THE SWEENEY, to use its (cockney-rhyming slang) television title, were heroes. The 1970s series starred the late, great John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, and revolutionised the gritty cop show genre into what we see on our screens today.

Last year, we received confirmation that THE FOOTBALL FACTORY and THE BUSINESS director Nick Love, would helm a big-screen remake of the show, after years of trying to get the project off the ground. In the roles of Regan and Carter would be Ray Winstone and Ben Drew (aka singer Plan B). Also involved and giving the film an impressive supporting cast are Damien Lewis, Hayley Atwell, Steven Mackintosh and Paul Anderson.

Finally with the film due in cinemas 21st September, we have our first look at the trailer.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
