The Hulk Returning To TV?

After AVENGERS ASSEMBLE smashed in $1 billion worldwide (and counting), it’s little wonder Marvel are planning to develop their movie franchise and super-folk further. But reports have surfaced today that the AVENGERS most popular character – the Hulk – is set to return to the small screen in an ABC series. The project is apparently being developed by PAN’S LABYRINTH director Guillermo del Toro, which will come as very exciting news for fanboys, as the fantasy wunderkind is renowned for his love of the monstrous.

Whilst this series will likely diverge from the Marvel Studios films and follow a completely new track, producers will undoubtedly be taking notes from the previous two movies, both of which received mixed responses. It could be that Hulk’s troubled story will play out better over the course of a series. Older readers will remember the INCREDIBLE HULK TV series that ran from 1978-1982 and spawned several films (one of which even featured Thor), starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno as Banner and the Hulk respectively.

Details are sparse for the time being, but the news raises various questions, particularly regarding who will play Hulk’s human alter-ego Bruce Banner, and how the lower-budget CG monster will look. It’s also possible that some liberties will be taken with the original story, just as ABC will be taking with their upcoming Punisher series (read the article here).

As long as each episode ends with Banner walking down the road all lonely to the sound of this tune, THN is happy.

From an early age, Matt Dennis dreamt of one day becoming a Power Ranger. Having achieved that dream back in the noughties, he’s now turned his hand to journalism and broadcasting. Matt can often be found in front of a TV screen, watching his current favourite shows such as DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, SHERLOCK, DAREDEVIL, and THE WALKING DEAD, though he’s partial to a bit of vintage TV from yesteryear. Matt also co-presents the Geek Cubed podcast, which you can download from iTunes. It’s quite nice.
