New Clarice Starling Series On The Way

They really can’t leave it alone, can they? After five films and a Hannibal Lector TV project on the way already, Lifetime is reportedly planning yet another television series based on Thomas Harris’ book series.

This time around it’s FBI agent Clarice Starling who’s set to take centre stage. Starling is best known as the protagonist of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, in which she was played by Jodie Foster (and then later by Julianne Moore in the lukewarm HANNIBAL).

MGM will produce the series for Lifetime and will be unconnected with NBC’s Hannibal Lector series, which is set to focus on the famous cannibal’s relationship with other FBI agent, Will Graham (Hugh Dancy). The Starling series will follow the young agent’s early days in the FBI.

Aside from THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, Harris’ characters have also appeared in movies MANHUNTER, RED DRAGON, HANNIBAL and HANNIBAL RISING.

It’s been 21 years since LAMBS and by now the franchise is seriously tired. The characters are, however, intriguing as ever, and it’s possible both TV projects could prove interesting, as long as the writing is strong, and they divert away from the ‘crime of the week’ format.

Still Thomas Harris be happy as a lamb in shit. He’s only written five books, and aside from ‘Black Sunday’ they’ve all been massive cash cows, ready for a big milking every few years. THN can hear him from the office, laughing his head off and dancing around in his costume made of women’s skin. Sorry, cash.
