Chris Hemsworth To Head ‘In The Heart Of The Sea’

2012 has been a kind year to Chris Hemsworth. After appearing in a short, yet STAR TREK turn in J.J. Abrams reboot, greater things have happened for Hemsworth with the lead in superhero smash, THOR. So far this year, we’ve seen him in ace head-twisting horror THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, return as THOR for THE AVENGERS and he was the best thing about the disappointing SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN. Not content with just these hits, Hemsworth will also be part of the ensemble of the much-delayed RED DAWN remake, expected later this year.

The Aussie-native is currently shooting Formula 1 biopic RUSH with Ron Howard, and will again don the armour and cape of Asgard for THOR 2, which will begin filming next year. Now he’s looking to add another real-life event movie with IN THE HEART OF THE SEA. The film will depict the tragedy that befell the ship that was the inspiration for Herman Melville’s iconic novel MOBY DICK (itself adapted numerous times, including the classic 1956 effort starring Gregory Peck). It’s a project that will be based on the same titled novel by Nathaniel Philbrick.

THE LAST SAMURAI director Edward Zwick was previously attached, but a new director is currently being sought.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
