Following the success of THE MUPPETS, it seems Jim Henson’s other major TV show is set for the big screen treatment. REAL STEEL director Shawn Levy will reportedly produce a movie adaptation of SESAME STREET for 20th Century Fox. The welcome news comes a little surprise after THE MUPPETS reclaimed their place as comedy legends earlier this year, and after one of SESAME STREET’s best loved characters (or more specifically, his ‘Muppeteer’ Kevin Clash) was the subject of the heartwarming documentary, BEING ELMO.
The educational kids show SESAME STREET has run since 1969, and spawned memorable characters such as Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, and the Count. Longtime SESAME STREET writer Joey Mazzarino will reportedly pen the screenplay.
Whilst no director has been officially announced, Levy seems a likely choice for the role.
