Van Helsing Returns In Full-Blown Film Reboot

A month after Universal revealed that they would be going forward with a new VAN HELSING movie, producer Alex Kurtzman has been speaking about his intentions for the project.

The character of  Professor Van Helsing was created by Bram Stoker for his classic novel ‘Dracula’, and over the years has been portrayed by many a top actor, including Lawrence Olivier and Anthony Hopkins. This time, it appears that INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE star, tiny Tom Cruise, will be on the other end of the stake, taking on the role. The idea is to step far, far away from the most recent and upsettingly poor version of the story, staring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale (2004), and create a film that is more ‘grounded in reality’. A total reboot for the character – much like THE DARK KNIGHT did for BATMAN – which Kurtzman referred to as a ‘major, major corner-turning moment in the way that genre and superhero stories could be told.’

So, even though the screenplay is yet to be written, I think it’s still safe to expect some super stakings and silver-sword wieldings that one has come to expect from a Vampire slasher, but all in the grittiest possible manner. Now that’s what I’m talking about.
