Official Synopsis And Title For Monsters Sequel Unveiled!

Gareth Edwards 2010 sleeper hit MONSTERS was a breath of fresh air in a very tired and increasingly unoriginal genre. The meager budget put similar, bigger budget sci-fi efforts like BATTLE: LA and SKYLINE (released around the same time) to absolute shame. THN recently confirmed that MISFITS regular Tom Green had signed on to helm follow-up entitled MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT. Now, we bring you the official synopsis for the forthcoming sequel that will see the original director Edwards, serve as executive producer (in-between helming a reboot of  iconic movie monster, GODZILLA).

Seven years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have spread worldwide. Humans have been knocked off the top of the food chain, with disparate communities struggling for survival. American soldiers are being sent abroad to protect US interests from the Monsters, but the war is far from being won.

In MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT, Noah, a haunted soldier with several tours under his belt, is sent on a mission: an American soldier has gone rogue deep in the Infected Zone and Noah must reach him and take him out. But when Noah’s unit and transport are destroyed, he finds himself with only a young and inexperienced cadet for company – the brother of the man Noah has been sent to kill.

The two soldiers must go on a life-altering journey through the dark heart of monster territory, accompanied by a young local woman to guide them. By the time the three of them reach their goal, they will have been forced to confront the fear that the true monsters on the planet may not be alien after all.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
