J.K. Rowling Reveals New Book Details (And Cover!)

Since her last publication was released in 2008 (‘The Tales Of Beedle The Bard’) we haven’t heard much from J.K. Rowling, the beloved author behind smash-hit novel series HARRY POTTER. Although both adults and children have fallen in love with her writing, Rowling has taken a step back from her usual product – to write a ‘grown-up’ book.

THE CASUAL VACANCY is based in Pagford, an idyllic town made up of cobblestone streets and quiet neighbours. However, when parish council member Barry Fairbrother dies quite unexpectantly, the truth of the town is revealed. Not everything is as it seems as wars have been waging between townsfolk under the cover of the cobbles. As an election is called for to fill Barry’s empty seat, the town is in for its biggest war yet – who will triumph over the rest?

The basis of the book reminds me of Edgar Wright’s HOT FUZZ (2007), based in a town quite like Pagford, with its own war against anything not quite perfect. As a child I loved Rowling’s writing, so I’d definitely give her new novel a go.

What do you think? Should she just stick to her wizardly writing or try something new?

THE CASUAL VACANCY is due for release from 27th September 2012, published through Little, Brown And Company.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
