Mondo have just showcased their latest print – from RETURN OF THE KING. If you’re not familiar with Mondo and their work then shame on you. These guys work as a division of the world famous Alamo Drafthouse, and create some of the greatest posters in the world. These aren’t the kinds of posters you’re used to seeing these days. Gone are the countless Photoshopped star faces; the size of their head indicating the size of their cheque. Instead we get genuine pieces of art that really capture the essence of a film. Upon development of the world’s first time-machine, I don’t want to kill Hitler, I don’t want to add more lifeboats to the Titanic, and John Connor can do one. I want Mondo to design posters for every film and everything, from Oxfam charity adds to political campaigns.
These prints are also incredibly rare. They come as part of the Alamo Drafthouse’s Mystery Screening. The audience don’t know what movie they are going to see, but they do know they will get a very rare and highly collectable print. So it sucks if you couldn’t be there. But luckily there is some good news. Mondo has received the license for LORD OF THE RINGS which means we can can expect some other posters in the future. Hopefully some will be made available to the public.
If you think I’m exaggerating then simply visit their website and blog. I can’t find a single poster of theirs that doesn’t wipe the floor with the original version.
Here’s the press release:
