Christopher Nolan Honoured In Hand-Printing Ceremony

Can you believe that over the 85-year long tradition of hand-and-feet printing outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood only 8 directors have had the honour of covering their extremities in cement? Well, it was only 7…until Christopher Nolan sunk is hands into the concrete on Saturday – congratulations, Mr Nolan!

Joined by the cast of his newest project THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (if you didn’t know that by now, where have you been?), Nolan joined the likes of Fred Astaire, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Hanks and er…Cher, sealing his hand and footprints into his own sqaure so they can be forever admired by tourists and passers-by. However, Nolan wasn’t the only person present who has been awarded. Morgan Freeman printed his in 2002, while Michael Caine recieved the distinction in 2008, just before the release of THE DARK KNIGHT. When asked if he had any tips for Nolan, Caine replied, ‘You never give [Nolan] any tips. You assume he knows better than you at everything, and he does.’ Good answer! Nolan himself said that it was ‘a bit surreal’ and he felt ‘unworthy but very grateful’ to be recognised in such a way. With his work on the BATMAN trilogy, MEMENTO (2000), THE PRESTIGE (2006) and INCEPTION (2010), I’m surprised that he’s surprised – but it’s nice to see someone so influential being so humble.

Are there any directors who you think should be given the cement-printing honour? Let us know your thoughts.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is due for release from 20th July.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
