Video-game adaptations have struggled to make the critical transition from pixels to celluloid. I struggle to think of a decent best-selling game to even make coherent sense or be vaguely impressive. That being said, I was brought up in the bygone era of Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amiga, where games came on cassette (that loaded making a horrid annoying noise and took hours) and characters were controlled by a joystick. ‘What is he on about?!’ I hear everyone under 25 shouting! Ask your parents…or even grandparents!
Suddenly though, news has reached us here at THN that the amazing Michael Fassbender is set to star and produce in a big-screen effort of ASSASSIN’S CREED. Is it any good gamers? I have no idea and considering I haven’t touched a console since the Sega Master System, or was it the Super Nintendo? Anyway, if Fassbender is involved, then it must have some promise. Will it be any good? Only time will tell, but with efforts such as SUPER MARIO BROS, RESIDENT EVIL franchise, MAX PAYNE or anything by Uwe bloody Boll, it certainly can’t be any worse!
A director is yet to be confirmed but Fassbender is expected to take the role of time-travelling bartender-turned-Knight Templar Desmond Miles (see I ‘ve done my research) and rights owners Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet confirmed:
Michael Fassbender was our first choice. Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.
I have a feeling that risking his promising reputation on a video-game adaptation, Fassbender has negotiated an producer credit to take a decent percentage of any box-office gross. A wise move and will certainly soften the blow, even if it’s rubbish.
