Although the title of this article singles out Academy Award-nominated actress Abigail Breslin as the ‘main star’, you should hear who else is involved! Yes, Miss Breslin is to star in new family drama AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, but alongside…Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis AND Meryl Streep.
Breslin – who has previously featured in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (2006) and ZOMBIELAND (2009) – is to portray a moody, disrespectful, cannabis-smoking teenager (you may know a few of these), daughter of Roberts. Although not confirmed, I imagine Lewis will play Roberts’ sister while Streep will play their mother. The film focuses on this desperately dysfunctional family and problems that emerge over one sweaty Oklahoma summer.
Directed by John Wells (from my research, he seems to have produced a lot of TV serials including ER and SHAMELESS) and co-produced by George Clooney, I get a feeling this could be along the lines of Clooney’s most recently completed project THE DESCENDANTS.
AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is currently in pre-production and is set to start filming from this autumn.
