So, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is finally here. I know we’re excited – are you? Just to help get you in the mood, THN have put together our favourite five Batman moments from the Caped Crusader’s various adventures throughout the years.
5. “Robin, pass me my Shark Repellent Bat Spray!”
Who could forget that classic tension building sequence from BATMAN: THE MOVIE, in which Adam West has a rubber shark attached to his leg and punching it just won’t do, so Robin must leave the helicopter on auto-pilot and scale the ladder to pass him (upside down) his shark repellent bat spray… and to think they thought that might never come in handy when Batgirl picked it up in the D.I.Y store. This was Jaws’ first comedic appearance on the big screen, a pure must-see moment.
4. “I’ll break you in two”
RETURN OF THE JOKER remains one of the greatest triumphs of the Batman animated series. The sheer darkness of the cartoon alone is almost unparalleled, and the moment when Joker for once has maybe gone too far, and Batman begins to make bold threats, you can’t help but think: maybe he’ll follow through, good guy or not. One of Batman’s greatest moments.
3. ‘Catwoman’
In BATMAN RETURNS, Michelle Pfiefer made ladies with cats and sewing machines scary as hell, especially as she put together the Catwoman latex suit (stabbing herself with sewing needles etc as you do). But lets be fair, she had only just been murdered… or so they thought. Well, you know what they say: villains make movies, not heroes. I wonder if Anne Hathaway will make me half as scared.
2. ‘Batman: Dead End’
This fan-made short premiered at the 2003 Comic-Con – a fantastically shot Internet sensation in which Batman squares off against the Joker. However, another villain lurks in the background, ready to take full advantage of the feud between the two tasty looking humans… although unbeknown to it, another creature is also out hunting… and anything that gets in its way is in for a fight. Also sometimes referred to as ‘Batman vs Alien vs Predator’, standing at a staggering eight-minutes long this is a must-see for all geeks around the globe.
1. “Don’t start with the head”
The Joker is locked in a room with Gotham’s saviour for the first time during the epic THE DARK KNIGHT – let the games begin! A battle of two immovable objects, Batman and the Joker duke it out as Bats tries to save Harvey Dent and Rachel, climaxing in a horrible and inevitable conclusion. I think Harvey was left in two minds over the whole thing… I am not ashamed of that joke.
