Claire Danes representation of CIA agent Carrie Mathison in HOMELAND enhanced her reputation at taking on varied lead roles. In fact, her bipolar obsessional Carrie won her an Emmy. She’s not been a stranger to awards either, from a Golden Globe in 1994 for the teenage MY SO-CALLED LIFE, through Baz Lurhmann’s ROMEO & JULIET when she shot to fame but Danes has always particularly shone on the small screen, TEMPLE GRANDIN being another fine example.
But before we get distracted by the past, there’s HOMELAND – Season 2 to consider and the mass of unanswered questions. Based on Gideon Raff’s Israeli series HATUFIM, the US version focuses on Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody – played magnificently by Brit Damian Lewis – who returns home eight years, after going missing in Iraq. But Mathison is convinced that he’s back to plot an attack on America but is she just paranoid after missing something on 9/11 or is she right? The show throws you in every direction and pulls you into the characters, we can’t wait for the follow-up that is due to start late September.

HOMELAND also stars Morena Baccarin, Mandy Patinkin and David Harewood. It returns to US screens on 30th September and we’re hopeful they’ll run in the UK at the same time.
