RoboCop Role For Jay Baruchel

More familiar for his comedic talents in DODGEBALL, TROPIC THUNDER and the hilarious GOON (which he also co-wrote and produced), Jay Baruchel looks nailed on for a meaty role in Jose Padilha’s ROBOCOP reboot. The futuristic action-thriller currently has an impressive cast already in place, with Joel Kinnaman donning the metallic body armour as officer Alex Murphy. Hugh Laurie, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earl Haley and Samuel L. Jackson are also involved.

Baruchal will play the marketing leader of OmniCorp, the company that eventually puts the pieces together in making Detroit’s robotic law enforcer.

This still leaves a number of villainous roles up for grabs, which has us here at THN Towers licking our lips in anticipation about who will play Clarence Bodicker, originally played with relishing menace by Kurtwood Smith in Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic. That’s providing he features in this new-look version, as they’ll be a lot of Kristen Stewart-like faces at THN if he doesn’t.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
