Always a horror favourite for genre fans, Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 malevolent masterpiece THE SHINING could be going the prequel route, with a Warner Bros representative stating the project is ‘in a very early stage and not even formally in development’, If it goes ahead, it will be an intriguing if somewhat controversial project.
It’s well known author Stephen King hated Kubrick’s vision of his best-selling book, later choosing to endorse frequent collaborator and friend Mick Garris’ 1997 pretty dire mini-series. No doubt if the project is green-lit, it will focus on the Overlook Hotel’s horrific past that’s sure to be all work and no play.
Perhaps this could serve as a build-up to King’s forthcoming follow-up novel Dr. Sleep, of which we first brought you news almost a year ago HERE. The author has confirmed the plot will follow a grown up Danny Lloyd, his mysterious supernatural gift and how it has shaped his life. I’m sure Warner Bros would be keeping an eye on the rights for a big-screen adaptation also, especially if they move forward with this prequel story.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
