Paranormal Activity 2 tops the US box-office

Supernatural scare-fest PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 has seen off competition from a bunch of jackasses and the [world’s biggest] social network to claim the top spot at this week’s US box-office. The Paramount Pictures release has pulled in a whopping $41.5 million at ticket booths across North America (estimated) since Friday, a lot more than was expected. According to the IMDb, the film only cost $2.7 million to make. Do the maths, and then realise just how much the studio will be celebrating this evening.

The horror took nearly double that of its closest rival, JACKASS 3D, also backed by Paramount, which scored another $21.6 million in its second week out there. The Bruce Willis starrer RED managed to pull in $15 million in receipts to make spot number three on this week’s chart.

Clint Eastwood‘s HEREAFTER, which stars Matt Damon, expanded this weekend and pulled in $12 million in green, making the number four spot, while David Fincher‘s THE SOCIAL NETWORK hit five with another $7.3 million in the bank.
