A GHOSTBUSTERS film without Bill Murray is like Fred without Ginger, Butch without Sundance or Ant without Dec. We lived in hope that somehow Dan Ackroyd would persuade his old friend that another supernatural classic could be on the cards, or even better, leave the hell alone if the script Murray read was as shite as he’d said. Well, it appears Ackroyd must be skint, as GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will be on the way next year.
Taking to Metro, Ackroyd was pushed as to whether we’d see the team strap on their proton packs once again, and responded with:
Yes, we’ve got a brilliant new writer on it and we’ll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We’re working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I’m confident we’ll be in production in the next year. We’ve got the studio on side. We’ve tried a few concepts which weren’t right but now we’ve got a good structure and will make it happen.
When pressed if Murray would return as the lovable Peter Venkman, Ackroyd responded:
No, I can tell you he won’t be involved. It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.
So they’ll be no Murray (unless Wes Anderson directs I expect). What are your thoughts? Happy there’s going to be another GHOSTBUSTERS? Gutted they’ll be no Bill Murray involved? Couldn’t give a monkeys? We’d love to know as always!
