Yeah, Yeah, Yeah(s)! Karen O And Robert Smith Unleash ‘Frankenweenie’ On Interesting Soundtrack

It took over a decade for THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS to release a tie-in soundtrack featuring popular artists, but the latest Tim Burton stop-motion animated family friendly horror is getting straight down to business. As well as the films original score composed by ex-Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman we are also getting another CD titled ‘Frankenweeni Unleashed’. Lead singer of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Karen O, has written and performed the song to feature over the end credits. Karen O, who has worked on other film scores/soundtracks such as WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (2009), had this to say about her track when talking to Rolling Stone:

Tim [Burton] wanted an unconventional unconditional love song. My music inspiration came out of the same era of B movie fright film references sprinkled throughout the film. I went in the direction of exotica and calypso stylistically because it’s quirky, good vibes music of that era and when you throw in a theramin solo it’s a marriage made in heaven. I remember BEETLE JUICE introducing me to the genius of Harry Belafonte’s calypso record so I wanted to give a nod to that too. We ended up with a love song for the end of the film to the film! FRANKENWEENIE is so special, it’s an unbelievable honor to be involved with it.

Other artists contributing to ‘Frankenweenie Unleashed!’ include Robert Smith of The Cure, Grace Potter featuring The Flaming Lips, and one of the film’s stars Winona Ryder. Look at the poster below for a full track listing. Both ‘Frankenweenie The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’ and ‘Frankenweenie Unleashed!’ will be released in the US 25th September 2012, though no UK release has been announced.

FRANKENWEENIE is released in the UK 17th October 2012. It stars the vocal talents of Charlie Tahan, Winona Ryder, Christopher Lee, Martin Short, Martin Landau, and Catherine O’Hara.
