Daredevil Reboot Dead? So Says Joe Carnahan

The reboot of Marvel superhero DAREDEVIL now looks to be dead, with the character rights set to revert back to Marvel unless 20th Century Fox begins production by early October. Today  THE GREY and THE A-TEAM helmer Joe Carnahan pitched his idea for a new take on blind-lawyer Matt Murdock’s superhuman talents and later tweeted this comment after the meeting:

Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids. We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone’s side.

Carnahan’s name became attached last week after Fox confirmed David Slade’s commitment to a NBC series HANNIBAL, meant he was unable to take the project any further. Perhaps Fox need to move a lot faster due to the time constraints on the rights issue. Carnahan is next set to direct a remake of Michael Winner’s DEATH WISH, which could have proved to stumbling block in this deal. The studio are obviously not prepared to wait, either that or they willing to let go of the project. After all the Ben Affleck version was hardly a huge hit with fans and critics.

We’ll keep you posted on any further developments.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
