Although James Franco was originally planning to shoot his directorial debut (an adaptation of William Faulkner’s novel AS I LAY DYING) in summer 2011, proper scheduling wasn’t possible and it didn’t happen. However, now it seems that everything is set to high, as the film is to start shooting from October!
Based on Faulkner’s novel of the same name, the story focuses on a family who take a pilgrimage to fulfill a relative’s dying wish – to be buried in Mississippi, her original home. With themes of marriage (happy and unhappy), death and the past, this could be a brilliant debut for Franco, if done well.
Franco has apparently lined up his cast in the form of Danny McBride (YOUR HIGHNESS), Tim Blake Nelson (THE INCREDIBLE HULK), Ahna O’Reilly (THE HELP), Jim Parrack (TRUE BLOOD and Logan Marshall-Green (PROMETHEUS). With a real mix of talent, hopefully Franco has picked well and AS I LAY DYING will be a success.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
