Warner Bros were reportedly looking at Ben Affleck to possibly helm their DC superhero ensemble JUSTICE LEAGUE. The team-up that will see the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern was also formerly in the hands of MAD MAX’s George Miller before it collapsed several years ago. With Affleck recently confirming he’s not interested (at this time anyway, considering he’s about to develop Stephen King’s THE STAND for the big-screen), word is Warner has turned their attention to The Wachowskis.
Lana and Andy Wachowski’s groundbreaking work with THE MATRIX trilogy suggests they could be a perfect fit for such a expansive, science-fiction universe. The duo have the upcoming all-star epic CLOUD ATLAS (also co-collaborating with PERFUME’s Tom Tykwer), due for release later this year. Their last film SPEED RACER was an expensive disaster, however their debut feature, erotic crime-thiller BOUND is still their best work. We’ll keep you posted on any developments on the JLA project that is currently being written by GANSTER SQUAD’s Will Beall.
Henry Cavill is bound to co-star in the comic-book adaptation, as the lead Clark Kent in forthcoming Superman reboot MAN OF STEEL, directed by Zack Snyder. Whether Ryan Reynolds returns to the role of GREEN LANTERN after the dismal film’s performance at the box-office remains to be seen. Other heroes are expected to get a character reboot/recasting all of their own for JLA.
