Andy Serkis Reads ‘The Hobbit’ As Gollum & Talks About Getting Back Into Character

Last week was Tolkien week and one of the best celebrations was this clip of Andy Serkis reading THE HOBBIT, which celebrates its 75th birthday this year. It has Serkis enthralling a number of children as he reads a section of the book which allows him to get back into character. Even after viewing all the extras on those mammoth extended editions, it’s still amazing to see Serkis use his Gollum voice. Serkis reprises his role as Gollum in the upcoming prequels to Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy, after 12 years and it doesn’t sound like he’s lost any of his vocal skills.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is released 14th December 2012. It stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Aiden Turner, Ian Holm, Billy Connolly, and Lee Pace.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

I love how there’s a kid recording that on his phone. My phone doesn’t even do that! Nor do I know what kind of phone does! I’m incredibly jealous, but mostly because he is sitting right in front of Andy Serkis.
