Ben Whishaw Being Courted For Spielberg’s ‘Robopocalypse’

Ben Whishaw is about to hit the big time as Q in upcoming Bond installment SKYFALL, and already he’s being eyed for another huge project, Steven Spielberg’s ROBOPOCALYPSE. Just yesterday we reported that Anne Hathaway was being considered as the female lead, and with Chris Hemsworth tipped for the lead role it seems as though Spielberg’s LINCOLN follow-up is going to have quite the ensemble.

Whishaw is appearing in another bug budget motion picture, CLOUD ATLAS. Up until this year he has mostly been associated with terrific roles in smaller films such as PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER (2006) and I’M NOT THERE (2007), but to me he will always be Pingu in the comedy TV series NATHAN BARLEY. If he joins the cast of ROBOPOCALYPSE, he will be playing a hacker named Lurker.

Despite lots of talk surrounding Hathaway and Hemsworth, this news about Whishaw is the first character information we’ve received. The book the film is based on doesn’t exactly have main characters, but with the writer of the amazing CABIN IN THE WOODS, Drew Goddard, focusing on scripting duties, I’m sure he’ll think of something.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
