R.I.P. Andy Williams

Andy Williams, one of the most brilliant crooners in the world ever, has died at the age of 84. He passed away due to bladder cancer on Tuesday 25th September 2012. Williams had been in show business for seven decades, and worked as both a TV presenter, but most famously as a singer. Singing is something he never felt too old for, and performed regular gigs throughout his entire life. With 18 gold records and 3 platinum, Williams was well respected and adored by millions.

His versions of songs would become iconic to many, especially those that featured in films. His song ‘Happy Heart’ features at the end of SHALLOW GRAVE (1994) and adds an emotional punch to the final twist in the tale. Heath Ledger famously serenaded Julie Stiles in 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU (1999) to Williams’ ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’. And even though Audrey Hepburn performed ‘Moon River’ in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S (1961), Williams made the song his own by performing it at the Oscar’s that year.

Williams leaves behind an incredible catalogue of tracks which will continue to delight for generations to come.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
