Sony To Adapt ‘Little House On The Prairie’ With David Gordon Green

According to sources over at Deadline this afternoon, Sony Pictures are looking to make a new feature film based on the classic book series LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. Now, we all remember the 1970s/1980s TV series of the same name that played out on Channel 4 on Sunday lunchtimes over here in the UK, but the novel series by Laura Ingalls dates all of the way back to the 1930s/1940s and was set around farm life in the late 19th Century American West.

The choice of filmmaking talent behind the proposed film is quite intriguing as the studio have apparently tapped up PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and THE SITTER helmer David Gordon Green to direct and Abi Morgan (THE IRON LADY, SHAME) to write the script while Scott Rudin will produce with Trip Friendly. Ink has yet to be applied to paper, but we cannot help but wonder what kind of tone the film will have, and whether it will be a straight adaptation or one with comedic elements, which is likely due to the director’s film history. We’ll see.
