‘Godzilla’ Script To Have Characters “Aged Up” By ‘Iron Man 3’ Writer

Gareth Edwards’ reboot of GODZILLA was a big surprise at this years Comic-Con. It showed some test footage which reportedly got everyone buzzing over the prospects of the big green lizard’s return after what will be a decade off screens. Edwards is no stranger to the big scary beast genre as he directed the amazing MONSTERS (2010). Although GODZILLA has 3 confirmed writers such as a draft by Dave Callaham, and further rewrites by Mac Borenstein and David S. Goyer, a new writer, Drew Pearce, is set to make a few more tweaks over the next 4 weeks.

Sometimes so many writers can set alarm bells ringing, but since GODZILLA is still pretty far off, I’ll take this as a positive sign that we’ll get something fantastic. GODZILLA is a very hard character to get right as it can easily slide into fun but bonkers sci-fi; something that Edwards assures wont happen. Pearce is the man who impressed Marvel with his script for IRON MAN 3, and he is reportedly joining GODZILLA to:

to age up the characters so that they fit the prototype of the actors they [Legendary Pictures] would like to target.

This sounds promising, as I take that to mean this wont be some young guys running around aimlessly. Hopefully we’ll get some genuine talented thespians that take their role very seriously. Let’s cross our fingers for this, the 30th, GODZILLA film.

GODZILLA will be released on 16th May 2014.
