Lee Daniels In Talks To Direct Amy Adams In Janis Joplin Biopic

Director Lee Daniels is in talks to take over directorial duties on the long-delayed Janis Joplin biopic, GET IT WHILE YOU CAN.

The film, which is reportedly set to star Amy Adams as the queen of rock n’ roll, traces the rise and fall of Joplin from her heyday in the 1960s — including her famous appearance at Woodstock — to her death at the age of 27 as a result of a heroin overdose. The project has gone through its fair share of ups and downs with both Fernando Meirelles and Catherine Hardwicke each attached to direct at one point. The film, which is independently financed, is in the early stages of negotiations with Focus Features and, should the studio come on board, the film could potentially start production in early 2013.

Daniels, who first made waves in Hollywood in 2009 with his critically-acclaimed drama PRECIOUS, recently directed the controversial thriller, THE PAPERBOY, which stars Nicole Kidman. The busy director also just wrapped filming on his White House drama THE BUTLER.
