James Cameron To Direct Africa-Set Thriller ‘The Informationist’

It seems James Cameron already has his film plans lined up for after the highly anticipated AVATAR sequels, as he is set to direct and produce THE INFORMATIONIST. Cameron is certainly keeping his schedule nice and packed as he’s currently busy searching the seas for his 3D documentary about his deep sea diving expeditions. Then he’s promised AVATAR sequels 2 and 3, which are to be filmed back to back, and now he’s already announced his post-AVATAR project.

The TITANTIC director, has recently acquired the rights to Taylor Steven’s 2011 novel ‘The Informationist’. The plot revolves around Vanessa Monroe, an information specialist who is hired by a Texas oil billionaire to locate his daughter who went missing in Africa four years ago. However, the specialist must then come face to face with the past that she has so desperately tried to forget. Lightstorm partner Jon Landau, who is to produce, described the female protagonist as ‘a mix between Lisbeth Salander and Jason Bourne.’

The announcement that Cameron is already set to do another film contradicts claims he made earlier that he wasn’t interested in developing anything other than the AVATAR movies. Plus, Landau commented that Cameron would most likely be following the AVATAR sequels with his adaption of Yukito Kishiro’s manga ‘Battle Angel Alita’.

Cameron only has the rights to the first The Informationist book, but since the third in the series is set to be published in 2013, we’ll just have to see if he has any plans to make another series with these books. But with all he’s got going on in the meantime, the very earliest we can expect to see THE INFORMATIONIST in our cinemas is 2016.
