Simon West & Jason Statham Re-Team On ‘Heat’ Remake!

Before film fans everywhere have heart attacks, this project is not a remake of Michael Mann’s outstanding 1995 crime-noir starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. No, thankfully we’re not at that point just yet, although if you’re a fan of Burt Reynolds’ action-thriller of the same name, you may be shaking your head.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 and THE MECHANIC director Simon West will team with Brit beefcake Jason Statham for the third time, this time on a remake of the 1986 Reynolds-starrer HEAT. The original film followed the mis-adventures of a kind-hearted Las Vegas mob enforcer and his efforts to make enough money and escape his lifestyle.

It’s been ages since West last really impressed with bonkers all-star actioner CON AIR, but with legendary screenwriter William Goldman adapting his own novel for the big-screen once again (having scripted the ’86 version too), here’s hoping we get West back on top form.

Shooting will commence in February 2013 and I think it’s safe to say we can also expect a title change.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
