Joe Hill’s graphic novel series LOCKE & KEY was recently turned into a pilot TV episode, directed by the excellent Mark Romenek (NEVER LET ME GO). Apparently that’s as far as the Fox network wanted to take it, despite garnering great reviews and having the likes of Steven Spielberg, Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman on-board as writers and/or producers.
However, it appears Universal Pictures are looking to adapt the material on the big-screen as part of a trilogy of grisly supernatural tales. It will focus on th New England mansion of Keyhouse, and the Locke family who are tasked as caretakers. The building, of course, holds many secrets and otherworldly creatures.
Hill (son of horror novelist icon Stephen King) has recently had his acclaimed novel HORNS picked up and put into production with Daniel Radcliffe headlining and THE HILLS HAVE EYES and PIRANHA 3D director Alexandre Aja at the helm. It’s also possible Romenek could return as the director of the first of these planned features. We’ll keep you posted on the project.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
