Michael Arndt In Line To Pen ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ & Expected To Include Luke, Leia & Han?

Sources close to Disney (who recently acquired Lucasfilm) are said to have let slip TOY STORY 3 and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE screenwriter Michael Arndt has already drafted up a 50 page treatment mapping out the next three sci-fi adventures for the recently announced new STAR WARS trilogy. So impressed is Disney with the work, word is the job for EPISODE VII (and most probably the whole trilogy) is Arndt’s to turn down, and considering how much of a STAR WARS fan he’s said to be, that sounds doubtful.

The news gets even better as his draft is said to include Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo in their later years, which could mean those early rumours of Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher being interested in returning could come to fruition. No word yet if Mark Hamill could be tempted to return as sister-smooching hero Skywalker, but having both Ford and Fisher publicly stating they’re open to revisit their respective characters can’t hurt.

Matthew Vaughn is still favourite to get the much sought after directing gig and close collaborator Mark Miller had written today about his potential involvement on his Millerworld Forums:

Caught up with Vaughn yesterday and got a snoop around his new place before we hit his local and talked about everything from the Star Wars rumours to The Secret Service to the Superior movie he bought the rights to last year. As I explained on CBR yesterday, in an interview done last week, Vaughn departed X-Men because our Secret Service project was being copied by a few scripts doing the round and we didn’t want anyone to beat us out there with our own idea. Star Wars has since, of course, announced an Episode 7 and he’s been touted as a possible director for that movie. All I can say is that if he DOES get picked to helm the next Star Wars there would be nobody with more passion or enthusiasm for the project.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
