We were all pretty shocked at the news of more STAR WARS films. But I think it’s fair to say we are all loving how it’s shaping up. With Disney announcing a 2015 release date, things are going to be moving bloomin’ fast, and we can now confirm that the writer of, at least, STAR WARS EPISODE VII will be Michael Arndt. Arndt was rumoured to be taking on scriptwriting duties earlier this week and Disney and Lucasfilm have been quick to confirm this is now a fact. Arndt is the Academy Award winning writer of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (2006), and the Academy Award Nominated writer of TOY STORY 3 (2010) and has already produced a lengthy treatment of around 50 pages for the STAR WARS sequel. The next trilogy of STAR WARS films are to take place after STAR WARS EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983) and are likely to feature Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo in some capacity.
I loved LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, and although I wasn’t a huge fan of TOY STORY 3, I appreciated the writing. Let’s face it, we’d get behind anyone that isn’t George Lucas. Even during the filming of the original trilogy, Harrison Ford famously said to Lucas “George, you can type this shit, but you sure as hell can’t say it.” Let’s hope Arndt’s words are a little easier on the tongue.
Here’s the confirmation from the official Star Wars Blog:
