This year, THE IT CROWD star Richard Ayoade ventured onto the big screen alongside comedy superstars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn in THE WATCH. Unfortunately, it seems the script was sharted onto blank paper and managed to form legible words. Back in 2010, however, Ayoade secured critical acclaim with his directorial debut SUBMARINE. Now the writer/director/comedian is back behind the camera with THE DOUBLE.
An adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s comedic novella of the same name, THE DOUBLE features a man whose life is set to be destroyed by a ‘literal facsimile of his self.’ This doppelganger aims to replace his double in his government job and take over his social circle. We’ve been told to think ‘FIGHT CLUB for bureaucrats.’
THE SOCIAL NETWORK actor Jesse Eisenberg takes the lead role — or, roles — alongside Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Rade Serbedzija, and SUBMARINE’s Yasmin Paige. THE DOUBLE is rumoured to premiere at January’s Sundance Festival, but for now be teased by the first two stills from Ayoade’s next feature.
