James Cameron Hopes To Shoot Avatar Sequels Next Year!

After having pretty much talked about it non-stop since the original came out, James Cameron finally looks set to actually start shooting the back-to-back sequels for AVATAR. Talking on the red carpet for the premiere of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. Cameron mentioned that the scripts should be ready in February and had the following to say:

I want to get these scripts nailed down, I don’t want to be writing the movie in post production, we kind of did that on the first picture, I ended up cutting out a lot of scenes and so on and I don’t want to do that again.

For the people that thought the story of the first one was a little ho-hum, this is definitely good news. There’s little doubt that it is going to be spectacular looking, but a more exciting and fresh story would do wonders for the franchise. Cameron also mentioned the possibility of using 48 frames per second for the 3D, similar to THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. Cameron said, ‘If there is acceptance of 48, then that will pave the way for Avatar (sequels) to take advantage of it’. Time will tell whether that will happen, although the first reports regarding the new technology wasn’t great. It’ll be nice to hear what people think of it once they see the entire film in it. Personally I thought Avatar was good, but not great, alhough the technology used was amazing. I am interested in seeing what he’ll do with the sequels though, and there is little doubt it will do amazingly well in the box office.
