With the first of Peter Jackson’s trio of Hobbit adventures now taking over cinemas and breaking box-office records, you’d have thought promo material would have slowed or stopped, at least until sequel THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG is released on 13th December 2013. Not a chance, as Tolkein’s tale of Middle-earth mayhem still has its fanatic followers, all eager to know more about the journey of their reluctant hero Bilbo Baggins and those dwarf warriors attempting to reclaim their home from the aforementioned fiery dragon.
Jackson’s epic LORD OF THE RINGS prequel is certainly a thrill, and if you loved his previous ground-breaking trilogy (much like myself) you’ll feel right at home. Here we have a look at three featurettes showcasing THE HOBBIT’s stunning visual and sound effects, as well as a look at the at the build-up to completing the film in time for the Wellington world premiere.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
