Sundance Latest – What’s Been Picked Up (So Far)?

sundance2013

Sundance is almost at its end already (where does the time go, huh?) and the news of films being picked up has come flooding in.

After reporting a few days ago that it was in the middle of a mean bidding war, it was announced that FRUITVALE has been picked up by The Weinstein Company. The film, which stars Michael B. Jordan as Oscar Grant, was reportedly snapped up in a deal worth $2 million. The company has also bought LOVELACE, the biopic about pornstar Linda Lovelace, for around the same price.

Sony Pictures Classic are going with beatnik for the new year, as both BEAT GENERATION: FIRST CLASS and KILL YOUR DARLINGS have been picked up by the company. Apparently KILL YOUR DARLINGS (which stars Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg) was also in a tight bidding war. Sony also acquired AUSTENLAND.

There was also good news for indie projects, with TOY’S HOUSE being picked up by CBS Films. The film, directed by Funny Or Die’s Jordan Vogt-Roberts, has relatively unknown actors in the lead roles, but has a supporting cast of COMMUNITY’s Alison Brie and Megan Mullally.

Newbies on the block Relativity Media have picked up Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut DON JON’S ADDICTION. The film was bought for $4 million, with $25 million going towards marketing a wide release.

With four more days left, hopefully there will be even more surprises along the way.
