Back in November we reported on Sean Penn possibly leading an action franchise with THE PRONE GUNMAN. Now TAKEN director Pierre Morel has jumped on board to direct. Funnily enough I compared Penn’s taking on an action role to that of Liam Neeson in TAKEN. Based on a book by Jean-Patrick Manchette with a script from Peter Travis, there are even suggestions that this could be the first of a franchise. Penn will play an assassin who is betrayed by the organisation he works for. Joel Silver and Andrew Rona will produce. The plot sounds very similar to…just about anything involving hired assassins really. So, having not read the book it’s a bit hard to get excited by the film just yet. Not being a fan of TAKEN doesn’t much help matters.
