David Ayer To Direct His Own WWII Tank Thriller ‘Fury’

David Ayer is already known for getting down into the gritty and dirty reality of worlds with the likes of END OF WATCH, STREET KINGS and TRAINING DAY, now he’s set to take on his own spec script FURY. The script itself has faced a bidding war within the film world and finally its sold for a fine $1 million to QED International, with (we believe) the rights to also direct it himself.

FURY will be set in 1945 as the Nazi regime collapses, this film would focus on the five man crew of an American tank called Fury as it battles a desperate and dying German army. Ayer has said this piece of work is very specific, and I expect it to be very different from the classic heroic WWII American film, as the director usually gets in a little deeper than most. In fact, he had this to say:

“What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience.”

Bring on the FURY is what I say, War should never be glamourised and it’ll be massively intriguing to see what he comes up with. More news as and when it appears, this is early days for the production.
