Colin Firth, a fave of the ‘News’, is apparently in talks to star in a new remake of the classic Michael Caine movie GAMBIT. What’s great is that the film is based on a screenplay by Joel and Ethan Coen, and will directed by Michael Hoffman (THE LAST STATION).
Shirley MacLaine also starred in the British crime movie, which was actually released all of the way back in 1966.
Firth would play a cat burglar who attempts to rob a billionaire of his priceless statue. He enlists the help of a waitress who looks exactly like the victim’s dead wife. The burglar’s usual precision is clouded by his relationship with his accomplice.
Firth is currently doing the rounds for his Oscar tipped role in THE KING’S SPEECH, a film that we happened to watch just this past week. Read our review here.
