It’s confirmed. Russell Crowe has officially signed on to play the title role in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic NOAH, set for release on the 28th of March, 2014.
We reported in early February that Aronofsky was circling The Crowe to play the bearded Biblical boat maker. Now everyone’s favourite phone-flinger has confirmed that he will indeed play the title role in NOAH. Not only that, but Paramount have already announced the release date, the 28th of March, 2014.
Aronofsky expressed his delight at working with Crowe-bags for the first time… At least we think he did. We can’t help but think this sounds a wee bit sarcastic. See what you think.
‘I’d like to thank Paramount and Regency for backing my team’s work to breathe new life into the biblical epic. I rejoice that Russell Crowe will be by my side on this adventure. It’s his immense talent that helps me to sleep at night. I look forward to being wowed by him every day.’
Rejoice? His talent helps me SLEEP? He’s havin’ a laugh, surely! We reckon he’s trolling The Crowe-Man, trying to whip him up into a Biblical frenzy that will translate to the screen with terrifying yet Oscar worthy proportions.
Aronofsky co-wrote NOAH with longtime collaborator Ari Handel (who produced BLACK SWAN and THE WRESTLER) and John Logan, one of Hollywood’s most in demand screenwriters and the man who penned the upcoming SKYFALL and LINCOLN. He also wrote GLADIATOR (2000) which made Russell Crowe a household name. So Logan will be the one man on set that The Crowe-meister won’t try and duff up.
Will Aronofsky’s vision surpass the definitive Noah movie, EVAN ALMIGHTY? God knows.
Crowe-tall-Recall (as his friends call him) is currently filming LES MISERABLES with Anne Hathaway and his BAFTA-bezzy mate, Hugh Jackman. He will also play Jor-El, Superman’s father, in MAN OF STEEL next year.
