It’s Showtime For Lynch And Frost As ‘Twin Peaks’ Returns

Twin Peaks

It ended with star Kyle MacLachlan smashing his head into a mirror. Now twenty five years later David Lynch is to reteam with writer Mark Frost to bring Twin Peaks back to air. The pair teased fans on Twitter before unveiling the comeback in a teaser trailer. Lynch famously declared he wouldn’t revisit the franchise following obtuse movie outing FIRE WALK WITH ME but it seems his recent work on The Entire Mystery Blu Ray set has led to a fully-fledged return to the small town that captivated the world at the end of the Eighties. Showtime are behind the move and the intention is to produce a new run of nine episodes. Frost explains further:

I think the fans would like to see and we would like to see as many of the old familiar faces as possible and a lot of new faces as well. We are going to keep that in mind as we start to work and hopefully everybody’s story will get some attention… I think you can safely say that the mystery in Twin Peaks as we started to explore more is very large, there are many aspects to it and the hope is that people will find things that they are interested in in all sorts of things related to the larger mystery. And that will include all the storylines we’ve dealt with up until now… Everything we are talking about feels very fresh and very right given where we’ve been, I’ll put it that way.

Though announced as a limited series, Frost appears open to further instalments. He and Lynch will co-write the new material and Lynch will direct. Originally concerned with a murder case involving local beauty Laura Palmer, Twin Peaks rapidly expanded into a highly unusual soap opera, made distinctive by its blend of scares and humour and Lynch’s meticulous attention to detail in its soundtrack and presentation. It caught viewers completely by surprise and it will be interesting to say the least to see how the concept fares in the televisual landscape it helped influence. A lengthy second season was reportedly hindered by various factors, not least the insistence of original network ABC on revealing the identity of Laura’s killer and Lynch improvising the final episode.

THN will keep you fully updated on all developments surrounding this exciting story. Twin Peaks is set to make your TV flicker in 2016.
