Some news coming out of Deadline that Denzel Washington and Christopher McQuarrie are to team on a new thriller set up over at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists. The unnamed film will directed by McQuarrie and written by Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner with a release date set for within a year on October 1st 2027.
The trade says that the film revolves around a ‘former police detective serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Granted compassionate release with six months to live, he returns home to the estranged daughter he left behind and a grandson he never knew existed. He only wants to make amends and forget his dark past, but his dark past has not forgotten him.’
We presume that Denzel is the police detective in the flick which sounds like it is right up our street. The actor was last seen on our screens last year in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, and before that Gladiator II and The Equalizer 3.
McQuarrie, meanwhile, is coming off the Mission: Impossible franchise, which wrapped up in 2025 with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
